A father and son who wanted a better ice rod

Neptune Ice Rods is a small, veteran-owned company in Wisconsin. We make one kind of ice rod, and we make it with an angled handle.

How it started

Jon and Philip Mathwig are a father and son who grew up fishing Wisconsin ice together. In February 2016 they started Neptune around one question: why does every ice rod have a straight handle?

Hold a straight handle level and your wrist has to bend. Do that all day and your wrist and forearm feel it. So they angled the handle to match the natural position of the wrist and forearm. That design is now patented.
